London, February 2025: The Science Entrepreneur Club (SEC), a not-for-profit organisation that connects the life science community in the UK, is expanding its network to Scotland with a new regional chapter, kicking things off with a launch event in Edinburgh March 2025.

SEC Scotland will be a relaxed, safe and supportive environment for Scotland-based life science entrepreneurs, investors and academics. It will provide the opportunity for ecosystem members to come together, socialise, share advice, tackle common hardships and discuss the industry. Scotland is a leading region for life sciences in Europe with over 770 businesses employing over 42,500 people and generating a turnover of almost £10.5bn (Scottish Development International). Despite this, most community-centric initiatives occur within the Golden Triangle of London, Oxford and Cambridge. By launching SEC Scotland, the SEC aims to challenge this status quo.

SEC Scotland will convene local members of the SEC’s BioCapital, BioEntrepreneur and BioAcademic communities to create one powerful life science community in Scotland. To celebrate the launch of the Scottish chapter, the SEC has teamed up with the Scottish Universities Life Science Alliance (SULSA) to host the first SEC Scotland Mixer in March 2025.

Scotland-based investors and entrepreneurs are welcome to RSVP here.

Scotland-based academics are welcome to RSVP here.

Only members of the SULSA network or members of the SEC’s BioCapital, BioEntrepreneur and BioAcademic communities will be admitted to join the March event.

“Scotland has a phenomenal early-stage ecosystem so we’re delighted to be expanding the Science Entrepreneur Club’s physical footprint and convene local life science founders, investors and academics in Scotland.” - Matt McCann, Head of BioCapital Network and Partnerships Lead at the Science Entrepreneur Club.

“SULSA are delighted to support SEC’s first event in Scotland, a connection made through former Forging Futures Ambassador, Dr Bill Carton. Our work in supporting industry engagement and entrepreneurialism pairs perfectly with SEC’s mission to support life sciences innovation in the UK and we are excited for the opportunities this partnership will bring to Scottish researchers and innovators.” - Dr Ally Hughes, Project Manager at SULSA.
